Yes, I weld aluminum
Many welders turn aluminum work away. It needs different gear than steel, a clean setup and filler metal matched to the alloy. If another shop said no, call me. I built 60 aluminum truck skids last year.
Aluminum is unforgiving of dirt. Oil, paint or a dirty surface leaves the weld full of tiny gas holes, so every joint is cleaned to bare metal right before welding. On shop work like gussets and frames I TIG weld, which gives tight control of the heat on thinner aluminum. The result is a clean, sound weld you can see in the photos below.
Heat also softens aluminum right next to the weld, in what welders call the heat-affected zone. Common 6061 aluminum can lose close to half its strength there. On a repair I add plate or extra weld length to carry the load past that soft zone, and the joint ends up stronger than what broke.
What I do
- Truck skids. Full drop-in beds for 6 and 8 foot trucks, with two full-length shelves on each side
- Truck racks and ladder racks
- Aluminum trailer frames, new or repaired
- Boat brackets and guard rail
- Custom aluminum parts made to order
- Lifetime warranty on truck skids
Aluminum and stainless jobs we do most
Repairs and one-off parts come in every week. The bigger builds are truck beds, racks and storage, made on the fixture table in the McMinnville shop.
The calls we get most
- Truck racks and ladder racksBuilt for the truck and the load. One headache rack carries the owner's company logo, recreated from his business card.
- Aluminum repairsCracked trailer frames, brackets and rails, cleaned to bare metal and welded, then plated past the soft zone the heat leaves behind.
- Stainless repairsStainless parts rewelded with filler matched to the grade, so the weld resists corrosion as well as the metal around it.
- Custom brackets and partsOne-off aluminum and stainless parts made to order, from a sketch, a measurement or the broken original.
Bigger jobs
- Aluminum truck bedsFull drop-in beds for 6 and 8 foot trucks, with two full-length shelves down each side. We built 60 of them last year.
- Storage systems and cartsShelving, carts and storage frames, TIG welded with gussets at the corners so they stay square under a load.
- Commercial kitchen equipmentStainless tables, frames and equipment stands built or repaired, with smooth, cleanable welds.
- Marine and winery stainlessBoat rails, dock parts, tanks and winery equipment, each covered on its own page, marine welding and winery welding.

Ladder rack and headache rack
A custom aluminum ladder rack for a contractor's truck, with his company logo cut into the headache rack. I recreated the logo from his business card.
Truck skids

Two skids for Washington state
The buyer was a few hours away, so I sent him photos of the welds during the build. He ordered a second skid after the first.

$250
call-out, within an hour's drive
Covers the trip and about the first two hours on the job. Custom work is estimated free from your photos. Repairs are priced on site.
What changes the price
- DistanceInside an hour's drive, the $250 call-out covers the trip. Longer drives are priced and agreed before I leave.
- MaterialAluminum and stainless take more time and shielding gas than mild steel.
- AccessIf the truck can't park close, running cables and gear to the work adds time.
- PrepRust, paint and grease come off first, and cracked or thin metal gets cut out. A weld is only as strong as the metal under it.
- Plate and partsNew steel, extra plate and replacement parts are added to the bill.
…he was awesome in sending a lot of photos of his welding so I felt I was purchasing a quality build.

Neal is a meticulous and detail oriented fabricator and welder. He is also a great human being which can be rare in this day and age. Neal designed and fabricated a truck mounted skid for us and it was dead on. I was looking for a high quality welder to build a skid for my roof cleaning business. I found Neal on FB and just so happens he is local. The skid Neal built is high quality with solid welds. I look forward to buying from Neal's Mobile Welding in the future! Thanks Neal for your hard work!
I would highly recommend Neal to anyone needing any sort of welding work done. The day after Christmas I had a 5 inch aluminum guard rail that was broken at the seam and was bent out of alignment pretty bad. Neal dropped what he was doing and went to get his rig. Had us back up and running in no time. Fantastic job at a fair price! Thank you Neal! 5 Stars!Read the whole review

Thank you for the excellent service. A job well done with integrity and professionalism. I needed aluminum welding done on my boat and the work went longer than expected but got it done and it looks great. Thanks again.
Most importantly, Neal did excellent work. His product was clean, precise, and done with care. He was professional, responsive, and showed up when he said he would. He repaired a weld on an RV leveling jack and a part on a large aluminum gate. I’d highly recommend him.
Common questions

Do you weld aluminum?
Yes. It's the question I hear most, because many welders turn aluminum away. It needs clean metal, filler matched to the alloy and gear set up for it. Last year I built 60 aluminum truck skids, and I've welded aluminum travel trailer frames, boat brackets and guard rail. Bring it to the McMinnville shop, or I'll come to you.
Why does an aluminum repair need plate?
Welding heat softens the metal right next to the weld. A plate or gusset carries the load past that soft zone, so the repair doesn't crack again beside the weld.
Can you build a skid for my truck?
Yes. Full drop-in skids for 6 or 8 foot beds, with two shelves down both sides. It's the same design I built 60 of last year.
Do you build truck and ladder racks?
Yes. Tell me your truck and what you need to haul, and send a photo of the bed.
How do I get a price?
Text a description of the build and a photo of your truck. Estimates are free.
Do you stand behind your work?
Yes. Every job carries at least a one-year warranty, as Oregon requires. Handrails and aluminum truck skids carry a lifetime warranty.
